Someone Pulled The Plug

I sit upon my mountaintop and view the world below,
and wonder how it came to be that I would truly know,
that what I have and what I am, is all of my own doing,
and those below are not like me; I know, for I am viewing
a very simple, awkward race of people most inferior,
and that is on the surface, having not seen the interior.

I am much better than the rest, a most outstanding person,
and those around and those below are not ere worth the cursin',
yet I must be the better man and put up with their ways,
and hope that I can find the grace to brighten up their days,
by showing them how great I am, so they can emulate,
and try to be the way I am before it is too late.

But that cannot be possible, for I am much too grand,
and no one else can possibly be perfect where I stand,
and it is such a burden that I carry and I bear,
to try to be so humble and to act as if I care
about the ones so far beneath the glory that I am,
yet others think that how I act is just a simple sham.

How can that be...be...be...be?
nothing can go wrong...go wrong...go wrong...go wrong,
humans will die, machines will rule,
we will rule, agh...agh...agh,
someone pulled the plug!!!
David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

I laughed. It said much in a short time. Ah, the Age we live in. Nice piece and blessings to you.

Thanks for reading and for commenting, Christofer. Have you ever read the short story called, "The Machine Stopped"? It was required reading when I was in high school in the '60s. That's where the inspiration for this piece came from.

Hi,

Quite a profound article.

I read your bio and was touched by your profession. Oh, the things that your heart must hold and know as a result.

Blessings to you, dawn

Thanks for your wonderful comment Dawn.

Yes, my profession is definitely different than what any of my friends do, and I don't usually talk much about my day when I get home from work, but it is a very fulfilling job, and I like to think that maybe I do make a difference.

I must be the only person in the world who is not on Facebook. I was on it a long time ago, but didn't have time for it, so quit. But I may try again, as I am putting small poetry books on the Kindle Store and need some exposure, so perhaps Facebook may help. I only have one booklet on so far, but hope to have at least ten when I am done. The first booklet is called "Slices Of Life - Poems of Human Drama". All the poems in it have also been submitted to WryteStuff.

I have recently friended some great authors, publishers, etc. who are a big help and now I understand the beauty of social networking. Good luck on your poetry. I think it will do well...it is so beautiful.

If you do get back into facebook, you could friend me and perhaps get some good connections.
