Snow Rush

As an adult, I no longer like the snow as I used to, but childhood memories of fun in the snow are still sweet.

Snow Rush

What a rush, what a thrill,
As we travelled downhill,
On a sled made by our dear ol' Dad,
It was twenty below,
As we played in the snow,
'Twas the best time that we ever had. Making forts from ice-blocks,
Till we froze our wet socks,
And our fingers were numb to the bone,
We just wanted to play;
We could stay there all day,
But our mother would call us all home.

We would take off our mitts,
And then we would sit,
And warm our cold hands by the fire,
We would dream of the day,
When we'd once again play,
Just thinking of what would transpire.

Those days are now done,
And I miss them, each one,
I just hope that my kids feel the same,
As they travel downhill,
On a sled with a thrill,
Being children; just playing a game.

David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

Ah, yes, we grew up in Minnesota - which is now why Colorado (NON-sky areas) is the closest I venture and we live there. Marijo

Sounds like me. I live only one hour drive from Banff, Alberta and hardly ever go into the mountains.

That was supposed to read non-SKI areas - we hike in the mountains and live at 8600 feet but are in a "rain shadow" with 4 mountains around us and it prevents a bunch of the white stuff from landing in our yard.... except the year our neighbor had a 12 foot drift between her bard and house.... oops...
