A Nation Divided

I live in the greatest nation in the world. Well, that's my opinion and I'm sticking with it. The problem is, we have never really been a united nation. As I heard one comedian say, "The British and French have always been at odds with each other. So they had a great idea. Why not join forces and make a nation together. Yea, great idea! It's like they were always fighting, and Europe got tired of it and said, "Take it outside", and Canada was formed." Yes, we do have our differences, but I wouldn't trade this nation for anything.
I love my great country so don't get me wrong,
The Canadian Anthem is my favourite song,
A small population, the largest landmass,
The greatest of nations, it's hard to surpass.
But the problem we have is the West and the East,
The French and the English, we always compete,
The East call us Rednecks and they may be right,
We have one great nation and yet always fight.
They have referendums to leave or to stay,
They won't fly our flag, just the blue Fleur-de-lais,
A nation divided, the East and the West,
We each think we're right and we are the best.
But we are one nation, a strange love affair,
A proud heritage and one that we share,
It's time we put bygones back where they belong,
Making "O Canada" the greatest of songs.

Why not join forces and make a nation together." I spent weeks in Quebec once and learned a little more French by listening to the political/separatist debates on radio. Thanks for a lovely poem, too. Thanks for commenting Jane. Perhaps one day we will get our act together and be known as "The United Provinces of Canada".
