The Colours Of War

Why is it that kids get caught in the grip of war, when all they want to do is play and do the things kids are supposed to do, like have fun, enjoy each day and,,,,, well, just be a kid?

The Colours Of War

Red and yellow,
Black and white,
Each one's a child,
Caught in the fight.
An innocent child
Torn from its mother,
Is any one colour
Worth less than the other?

"It doesn't much matter
What happens to them,
But don't you dare touch
My child or my kin."

Red and yellow,
Black and white,
Thinking like this
Does not make it right.

When children die there,
It hurts all the same,
And it hurts even more
When we are to blame.

When we see those children,
Let's look at our own,
And thank the Good Lord,
That they're not alone.

Red and yellow,
Black and white,
Let's hope that one day
We'll all see the light.

David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

I love it David. I hope this will fit in:

The nation’s current require be not heroics, except curing; not curative, but customariness; not uprising, but re-establishment; not anxiety, but alteration; not act, but peacefulness; not the extravagant, but the levelheaded; not hatred, but loving (Laconic, Dr Clarence Rucker, Jr).

Thanks for reading and for your comments. They are a little over my head, but I've read them a few times and think I understand somewhat. I guess I'm not really a deep thinker. lol

This is a really sensitive and beautifully written poem Dave. It is such a huge tragedy that human nature is so terribly destructive and cruel at times. Why I ask myself, Why? We are on the earth for relatively such a short time, it all seems so meaningless to destroy lives for such small gain and such a large loss.

Thank you for continuing to inspire me with your poetry David.

Bless you and your family,

Elfreda

Thanks Elfreda,
If only we could learn from mistakes of the past and quit this nonsense called war.

hi david,

this was beautifully written. i felt every word, as i have my son in the airforce, and my daughter will soon be joining the army. they gave up so many of their 21 and 23 year old rights, to better themselves and fight for their country if need be. now, i can only be proud, have faith, and know that God's arms will be around them.

thank you,

my best,

Thanks Sue,
I know you must be proud of your kids. It is an honourable profession, but I really wish that there would be no need for a military. Lots of people would have to find new jobs, but the world would be a happier place to live. Until then, we need people in the military to protect us and try to keep the peace.
God bless you and may He protect your kids while doing their duty.

Hi David, very well done. Sounds like a song I know :-)

Thank you for sharing. I hope and pray with you and countless others for peace -- we know it will ultimately come when Christ steps foot on the earth. But in the mean time, it wouldn't hurt to move toward that peace willingly.

Blessings! Teresa

Yes, the Bible says that if man will repent and pray He will heal their land. But I guess that's a long shot in this day and age.
Blessings.

Hi David.

Thank you for sharing this poem. It is so sad knowing that children are caught in the middle. Well written. I will pray for those children.
