Let The Children Inspire You, Enjoy Your Summer

It's been a long, hard winter for a lot of us and Spring is finally here, with Summer just around the corner. It's time to relax, lighten-up as it were, and enjoy the few weeks we have before Winter returns.

To get your Summer inspiration, watch and listen to the children around you. For one day just sit on your front lawn or deck and watch the kids in the neighbourhood. See how they play, laugh, giggle and enjoy every minute of the day.

I love to sit on my deck and listen to the squeals of children playing in the park, or the cheering of the teens playing baseball or soccer.

I hope the following short poems will help you find that child inside you, then go and have a great Summer.

Little Red Wagon

Little Red Wagon, bright and sleek,
Racing down my sidewalk street,
A little horn that goes beep-beep,
Driving my Red Wagon.

I drive my cart around a curve,
I see a bump and try to swerve,
I go too fast and lose my nerve,
Driving my Red Wagon.

When I am big I'll drive a car,
I'll go real fast and drive it far,
But until then I'll ride my cart,
Driving my Red Wagon.

Wiggles

Jelly wiggles,
Puppies wiggle,
So do little worms,
But sometimes little 'wiggle-worms'
Make timid people squirm.

Fishes wiggle,
Tadpoles wiggle,
Ears can wiggle too,
And when I'm in a happy mood,
I wiggle all day through.

Happy wiggles,
Silly wiggles,
Having lots of fun,
I wiggle in the summer sun,
Before the winter comes.

Some things wiggle,
Others jiggle,
Children when they're small,
Will learn to wiggle one and all,
Before they learn to crawl.

Little Sunbeam

My Little Sunbeam comes to play,
It leaves by night,
And comes by day,
I don't know why it doesn't stay,
I love that Little Sunbeam.

It chases dust around the room,
A cloud goes by,
And very soon,
The Little Sunbeam turns to gloom,
Goodbye my Little Sunbeam.

But that was back when I was young,
When life was simple,
Full of fun,
And now when days seem dark and glum,
I think of Little Sunbeam.

David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

This is such a tremendous return to happy times, simple thoughts, magical beliefs, sense of the here and now, no worries about the future just absorbed in the moments as they are. What a wonderful state of mind to be in. Constant creative daydreaming and journey of discovery. Seeing things our way. These poems are a beautiful testiment to that precious period in our life called childhood and the vivid dreams that we take with us into adulthood as a type of early belief system.

Really enjoyed these poems David and am about to read them again.

Thanks for the enjoyable read. I can't wait for summer.

Sadly, in Britain Summer -all to often - means convectional rainfall.

OK, David, that's it. You put together a book of poems for children, my daughter, a custom artist, can illustrate it and I can buy it and read it to my new grandson! ;-)

Oh, if only I had enough children's poems to turn into a book. I'm afraid that I don't have enough and I find them rather hard to write. It's rather hard getting into the mind of a child.
But I'm glad you like the ones I have written.
