"Holy War" and "The Comforter" - two poems

Holy War

(based on Romans 7:14-25)

Each day we fight a holy war,
It's spirit versus flesh.
Although we try to overcome,
The two don't seem to mesh.

The spirit says "Just let it be",
The flesh, it says "Just do it".
And then before we know what hit,
We realize we just blew it.

There's One who watches from above,
The Spirit in the sky,
He says "You'll do alright, My son,
If you will only try."

"Just stop the struggle, rest in Me,
And I will see you through".
I took the Spirit at His word,
He showed me what to do.

It is no longer I who fights,
For He now fights for me,
This Spirit is the Son of God,
And He has set me free.

The Comforter

I may not know the pain you're going through,
But wish that I could take you by the arm,
And hold you up, in this your time of grief,
And shield you from all trouble and alarm.
But though I cannot ease your suffering,
There's One above who gave the best He had,
To comfort you in troubles that abound,
And lift you up when you are feeling sad.
He said to lay your burdens at His feet,
He bore your every care upon the cross,
To take away your pain and agony,
To comfort you in sorrow and in loss.
So if you give your life to Him today,
He'll walk with you along life's narrow way.

David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

David, The Comforter poem especially helped me today. I pray God's continual guidance over your trust in Him and your writing.

Jane, it is wonderful when I hear that something I have written has helped someone in some way. This reassures me that God is at work.

David, I would like to put you poem, "The Comforter," in our quarterly newsletter, the July-Sept edition. It is delivered to subscribers by e-mail, as an attached PDF document. I got your e-mail address from SW, and would be glad to send the Summer 2009 edition at the end of June. I would like to put the poem in a new section we put in the Spring edition, called Guest Writer. Yours would be the first poem of that section. What do you think?

Thanks Gary,
I've been looking at publishers on the internet but they are all vanity publishers, which expect me to put up money. I'll have to try finding regular publishers.
I have been working a lot lately and have hardly even had time to spend here on SeachWarp, but when I find time, I'll keep checking into publishers.
Thanks again for the push.
