And Do It God's Way (Song)

One song I hear numerous times at funerals is Frank Sinatra's "I Did It My Way". I know most of you remember this song. It supposedly speaks of a person of strong will, who takes life by the horns, making his own decisions, whether right or wrong and living with the results. In the end he triumphs and is proud of his accomplishment of living life his way.

To many this sounds noble, but as one who is a follower of Christ, I believe that 'my way' should be 'His way'. So to this end I have done some major rewriting of the song "I Did It My Way" and call my version, "And Do It God's Way".

If you know the tune to the original song, why not sing along and see if my version has any merit. I hope the words will bless and strengthen you in the faith of our Lord Jesus Christ .

He'll take you home, of that I'm certain,
Just live your life for Him,
And you will travel Heaven's highway,
So, follow in His steps,
And do it God's way.

Regrets may follow you,
But He can turn them into blessing,

To face the future without guessing,
Your plans may go astray,
So trust in Him, instead of your way,
And you will never miss,
By doing it God's way.

There may be times, I'm very sure,
When you will fall for Satan's lure,
But through temptation, trust in Him,
And He will pardon ev'ry sin,
Then stand up tall and give your all,
And do it God's way.

So, love and laugh and cry,
And live your life without exception,
And when it's at the end,
You'll take your part in resurrection,
And Jesus, Son of God,
Will meet you there to say "It's okay",
So, give your life to Him,
And do it God's way.

For what is man, that God should care?
And on the cross our burdens bear,
To lift us up, when we are down,
To offer hope so we won't drown,
The Book of Life will show your name,
By doing it God's way.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

What a wonder tribute to Our Savior David. I have the karaoke version of Franks song, and this would be great to use in church....or at a funeral. Wow, how powerful is this? It has become one of my favorites.....Well done my friend, and I still don't know how you do it.....from one poet, to another......Great job, and I could "Feel" it!!! Gary, I give God complete credit for this one. The Frank Sinatra version was sung at a funeral the other day and I couldn't get the thought out of my head, that there should be a Christian version of that song. When I got home I went straight to my computer and started typing. The words came so fast I could hardly believe it. They just seemed to fall onto the paper as it were, and in a matter of minutes (at least that's what it seemed like) the poem/song was complete. I believe God was putting the words in my mind; I was just doing the typing.

God Bless you David for the inspirational poem/song. I had just finished listening to Frank Sinatra's 'My Way' and thought that this would be more appropriate to be titled as 'God's Way'...I couldn't believe that someone had actually written exactly what I wanted!!!! Thank you, Rona, for the wonderful comment. I have heard the song by Frank Sinatra many times, and had the same thoughts as yours. One night I sat at my computer and the words to the Christian version just landed on the page.
