Wife Beater

Peter, Peter, woman beater,
Had a wife and couldn't please her,
Treated her like someone's trash,
And with his fist, her face would smash.
She was kind and she was good,
And many things she had withstood,
But living with this man of wrath,
Would end up in a bloody bath.

Late one day, he came home drunk,
And threw her down like she was junk,
She tried to scream and tried to run,
But in his hand he held a gun.

And with his hands around her neck,
She'd much to lose, so what the heck,
She fought until she had his gun,
And shot him there, and it was done.

And now she lives inside a cell,
But it is better than that hell,
Where she could never find a place,
To live a life where she was safe.

So men out there, please hear my plea,
Don't be like him, for you can see,
A violent life is never good,
Please treat your wives the way you should.

David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

Thanks, Linda.
It's just too bad that these things happen. I just wish there was no such subject matter of which to write.

David,

Very good poem and, unfortunately, how true. The cell may be better than where she was, but she shouldn't be in prison! What is wrong with that picture?

There is everything wrong with that picture, unfortunately that is the picture our justice system often paints. Perhaps things will change one day and I'll be able to write another poem with a brighter picture than this.
