"Cowboys Never Quit" and "A Cowboy Named Walter" - two poems

Here are two poems about cowboys; they are both about the cowboys of the rodeo. The first one tells of the stamina and will of a rodeo cowboy; the second is a humourous limerick about "Walter", the wannabe cowboy, who's rodeo career ended in disgrace.Enjoy!

Cowboys Never Quit

He sits atop a hurricane,
Of muscle, bone and grit and pain,
This rodeo will be his bane,
But cowboys never quit.
A thousand pounds of turbulence,
A ride of thunder, quite intense,
It's full of drama and suspense,
But cowboys never quit.

It's man and beast and bravery,
As bull and cowboy disagree,
And one is thrown and one is free,
But cowboys never quit.

Another ride, another day,
The bulls still win and cowboys pay,
But with the rodeo he'll stay,
For cowboys never quit.

A Cowboy Named Walter

There once was a cowboy named Walter,
Who knew not a rein from a halter,
He saddled a horse,
(He couldn't, of course),
He tried, but in fact he did falter.

He then tried to wrestle a steer,
The audience laughed and they jeered,
He found out somehow,
Twas just an old cow,
Though humbled, his try was sincere.

Though Walter still lives on a farm,
The sight of a cow gives alarm,
And as for the horse,
He hates them of course,
For they were the cause of his harm.

David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.

Great poems! I relate to Walter, I am scared to death of horses. I still wonder at God's sense of humor that he should put me, a city girl through and through in the country. Thanks for the countless smiles! Teresa

I'm glad you liked these, Teresa. I'm a country boy at heart, but like you, am afraid of horses. I was raised among cattle, but we never owned a horse when I was a kid. I find they are a very nervous animal, and an animal that nervous should not be that powerful.
