Faith Without Works

He's winding down the alley,
It's just another day,
He's looking for redemption,
But will he find his way?

He's hiding out in dumpsters,
And getting high on Smack,
He's scared of those around him,
Afraid that he'll get whacked.

And then he hears the music,
On tambourine and drum,
For it's Salvation Army,
They're telling him to come.

A meal and bed are offered,
With preaching and a song,
Now, Im not criticizing,
So please don't get me wrong.

For this is Heaven's army,
They're doing as Jesus did,
They're dining with the sinners,
And those down on the skid.

While others sit in churches,
And hear the preacher speak,
Their ears are being tickled,
With messages so weak.

Their faith is dead and dying,
If works are never shown,
If 'church' is what they're playing,
They may as well stay home.

For church won't make us Christian,
That comes through Gods own Son,
And then our works will follow,
To do what must be done.

You say you have faith,
for you believe that there is one God.
Good for you! Even the demons believe this,
and they tremble in terror.
How foolish!
Cant you see that faith
without good deeds is useless?" James 2:19-20

David Pekrul was born in New Westminster, B. C. Canada.

He wrote his first poem in February, 2004, as an Anniversary card for his wife, Linda. Being rather pleased by the results of his first attempt, he wrote a second one, then another and another. He soon realized that he was in love with words.

The pictures that his words paint may not always be pretty, but they are pictures worth viewing, for he writes about the world around him, whether they be things good, bad or otherwise. He also writes about family, nature, God and faith.

His first poetry book, "Parts Of The Sum Volume One" has just been published and can be found at http://www.blurb.com/bookstore/detail/3145051

David makes his home in the foothills of the Canadian Rockies with his wife Linda and spoiled pup, Tiki.
